Abia: Pensioners applaud Otti over promise to clear backlog

Abia State pensioners on Thursday expressed their appreciation to the state Governor, Alex Otti.

The ex-workers who marched round through major streets in Umuahia the state capital were seen dressed in white attires, singing solidarity songs to the Governor after he promised to clear a backlog of their pension arrears.

They also praised the Governor for paying their pension on the 28 of every month along with workers still in active service.

“We now receive our monthly pension on time without stress”, they sang, pouring encomiums on Governor Otti.

The Coordinator of the senior citizens under the aegis of Concerned Abia Pensioners, Chief Emeka Okezie told newsmen that Otti did what the immediate past Governor of Abia State failed to do after making several promises.

He prayed to God to bless the Governor and give him more funds to also clear their gratuities paid over 15 years ago.

Otti recently directed that the accumulated pension arrears in the state be cleared according to the template agreed with the pensioners.

The Governor had during his inaugural speech promised to wipe out pension arrears in the state.
