Abiodun's Statistics On Ogun Having Highest Number of Internet Fraudsters Wrong — Ogun Indigene

Abiodun's Statistics On Ogun Having Highest Number of Intern

An Ogun Indigene, Edward Ademosu has faulted the claim of the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun that the state has the highest number of internet fraudsters in the country, adding that the governor’s statistics cannot stand any scientific proof.

Ademosu who declared that it is intriguing to understand the basis for the governor’s conclusion argued that the available statistics do not support the assumption.

He stressed that the governor should have taken time to Google check proper records before coming out publicly.

In his words, "It is intriguing to understand the basis for this conclusion. The available statistics do not support this assumption. Mere insinuations that the number of tertiary institutions in a state correlates with criminal rate is not empirical enough."

The Public Relations expert explained that a cursory check on Google showed that Ogun State is not on the top list of the internet fraudsters, as claimed by the governor, but is far behind some states in the country.

He maintained that his explanation was not meant to dismiss the prevalence of fraudulent activities in the state, but to put the record straight, and erase the notion that the state is in forefront of fraudsters.

Recall that the governor while speaking on Friday at the launch of ‘OP-MESA’, a joint security outfit had admitted that the state parades the highest number of internet fraudsters known as yahoo boys in the country.

Governor Abiodun had also declared that the Ogun State Government was determined to stop the menace.

The governor who explained that the reasons behind the high rate of yahoo boys were the existence of a high number of institutions in the state added that given the ugly trend, his administration has concluded arrangements for the establishment of the state commission on crimes to complement the roles of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Abiodun also assured that with the set up of the commission, criminals will be smoked out and handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
