ABU Zaria Appoints New Director For Inland Basin Centre, Oth

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has appointed Prof. Umaru Dambatta of the Department of Geology as the Director of the Centre for Inland Basin Studies of the institution.

This was confirmed in a statement by Malam Auwalu Umar, the Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the university issued on Monday in Zaria, Kaduna State.

According to Umar, the appointment which was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala took effect from November 11 and will last for two years.

He added that until his appointment, Dambatta was the immediate former Deputy Director, Planning and Statistics Unit, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring.

Also, Prof. Bello Mukhtar was appointed as Director, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) of the ABU for two years with effect from November 11.

“Mukhtar, who until the appointment was the Deputy Director, Quality Assurance Unit, DAPM, teaches at the Department of Chemical Engineering.

“He was at various times Ag. Dean, Deputy Dean, and Assistant Dean, Faculty of Engineering,” Umar said.

Umar said Mukhtar replaces Prof. Yahaya Ibrahim, who was recently appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Katsina State by the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, Prof. Abdul’aziz Hassan of Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences has been appointed the Deputy Director of the Planning and Statistics Unit, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring.

Umar noted that Hassan’s appointment was in recognition of his administrative and academic leadership qualities.

He added the two directors would be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the daily operations of their respective offices.

He said the vice-chancellor had urged the appointees to see themselves as “part and parcel of the University Management and be prepared to make sincere inputs so that peace and harmony reigned in the University”.
