Abuja Police Command Arrests Murder Suspect

The Zone 5 Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force has disclosed that it has arrested a 34-year-old male suspect allegedly involved in a case of attempted rape and murder.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday signed by DSP Tijani Momoh, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), in Abuja.

According to Momoh, the suspect was arrested on November 26 at about 1400 hours by operatives of the Zonal Intelligence Bureau, who acted on credible information.

He explained that preliminary investigation into the case revealed that the victim, one Elimian Success, 18 years, met the suspect on November 24 while looking for a job along Gapiona road, GRA, Benin.

“The suspect deceived the victim that he is the manager of a hotel located within the vicinity and that he will contact her for a job interview.

“The victim said that she received an SMS on November 25, inviting her for a job interview the next day at the aforementioned hotel.

“The victim further said that she prepared herself by dressing in a black skirt and white shirt as instructed by the suspect the following day, and met with the suspect at the said hotel.

“She said she was surprised when he asked her to come to his hotel room located at the first floor of a three-storeystory hotel building for the supposed interview.

“The victim further revealed that in the hotel room, the suspect started making sexual advances at her.

“That when she resisted, he tried to force himself on her, closing her mouth with his hands to prevent her from shouting, applying great pressure on her neck, and further inserted her head into a full bucket of water, in an attempt to kill her.”

The ZPPRO further explained that in the course of the suspect attempting to rape and kill the victim, the victim sustained several injuries on her head and other parts of her body.

He added that the victim has since been receiving treatment at the Police Cottage Hospital, as well as the Specialist Hospital both in Benin.

“The suspect has been arrested and has made a useful statement to the Police and the scene of crime has also been visited.

“The police is still expecting other witnesses to come forward with useful statements regarding the case.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigation is completed,” he said.

Momoh also quoted the AIG, Lawan Jimeta, in charge of the zone, comprising Edo, and Delta as urging the zonal personnel to remain focused on the fight against crime and all forms of criminality.

He said Jimeta also solicited for continued support and cooperation of citizens of the two states within the zone.
