Adamawa govt, FG partner to empower two million farmers

The Adamawa government has collaborated with the Federal Government to empower 2,000,000 farmers through President Bola Tinubu’s National Agriculture Growth Scheme and Agric-pocket, NAGSAP, initiative

David Jatau, Adamawa's Commissioner for Agriculture, announced this to journalists in Yola on Sunday.

Jatau stated that Tinubu’s initiative aligns with Governor Umar Fintiri’s commitment to enhancing agriculture to boost food security, create employment opportunities, and improve living standards.

He mentioned that enumerators are currently registering farmers across local governments, wards, and unit levels.

Furthermore, Jatau noted that the governor has instructed the 21 council chairmen to allocate 300 hectares of land, amounting to a total of 6,300 hectares.

This land will be distributed to 6,300 farmers statewide and will come with all necessary farm inputs, including land preparation for cultivation.

“At the end of the harvest, those who cultivate the farms will own the produce; the aim is to fight youth restiveness and unemployment and improve food security for having available food,” he said.

According to him, each LGA will again provide one hectare to be used as a model farm for training 100 youths in each LGA on climate-smart agriculture.
