Adamawa High Court Adjourns Impeachment Case Against Council

The Adamawa State High Court has adjourned hearing of the impeachment case against Mubi South Local Government Area Chairman, Hamidu Jingi Dirbishi.

The court conducted a hearing on Friday in he case brought by Auwal Haruna, the first complainant, against Dirbishi, the second respondent and his Vice, the third respondent.

During the court proceeding, Haruna challenged the involvement of the House of Assembly and two others.

During the hearing, the second respondent, Dirbishi, informed the court that he had not been served with the impeachment notice.

He added that he was not given an opportunity to defend himself before the Council in accordance with the Local Government law.

After considering the arguments presented by both parties, the court directed the first complainant, Haruna, to provide evidence of serving the impeachment notice to the chairman and his Vice.

In light of the development, the court adjourned the hearing to June 14, 2023.

The court further noted that it expects the first complainant to submit the requested documents, including the impeachment notice and any other relevant evidence.

The adjournment will allow the court sufficient time to review the evidence and determine the factual details pertaining to the leadership situation in Mubi South.

The court has also issued an order restraining the Adamawa State House of Assembly, as well as the former Chairman and his Vice from engaging in any activities that would undermine their positions or falsely represent themselves as the Chairman and Vice Chairman.

The court added that the order will remain in effect until the second hearing on June 14, 2023.
