Adamawa Primary School Teachers Not Promoted For 14 Years — Chairman Education Board

Adamawa Primary School Teachers Not Promoted For 14 Years

The Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Dr Salihi Ateequ has lamented non-promotion for primary school teachers in the state.

Ateequ said the primary school teachers in the state have not been promoted in the last 14 years.

He disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.

He further complained about how the teachers are being paid below the minimum wage of 32,000.

He added that in the past 14 years they have been paid N18,000 even when there was an increase in the minimum wage.

While blaming the past administration, he said the present administration has inherited what seems to be the problems affecting education in the state.

For what he termed as a 'terrible situation', he lamented how primary school teachers have died without enjoying the benefit of being promoted in the past 14 years.

Ateequ stated that the governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had "inherited the stagnant promotion of primary school teachers" in Adamawa state.

He said, “Primary school teachers in the state have not been promoted for the past 14 years and it is very demoralising.

“Also, primary school teachers are currently being paid within the old minimum wage of N18,000 instead of a new minimum wage of ₦32,000 like their counterparts in the state civil service."
