Nigerian Afropop singer Adekunle Gold has made a major career move by signing with Def Jam Recordings, one of the most successful record labels in the global music industry.

Def Jam CEO/chairman Tunji Balogun expressed his excitement about working with the talented artist, praising his growth and evolution as an artist over the years.

“I’ve been following Adekunle Gold since I first heard his record ‘Sade’ in 2016.

“Over the years, everything in AG’s world has elevated — his songwriting has refined, the scope of his artistry has widened, his vocals have strengthened, his approach to fashion is more distinct, and his showmanship and performance ability have grown exponentially,” Balogun said.

“He’s stepped into stardom on his own terms and is completely comfortable being his true self.”

Gold, whose real name is Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, expressed his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to work with Def Jam, describing it as a “full circle moment”.

Adekunle Gold said that because he and Balogun share Nigerian roots, “he understands it, so signing to Tunji makes sense.

“He’s like my studio buddy that just comes everywhere I go.

“The day he doesn’t have time to be there, I know he must’ve been like stupidly busy. He’s great.”

Gold’s signing with Def Jam is not only a testament to his hard work and dedication as an artist but also highlights the increasing global recognition of Afrobeats' music.

As Balogun noted, the label aims to tastefully enter the Afrobeats space, and signing artists like Gold is a step towards that goal.

For Gold, signing with Def Jam is the right move to take his career to the next level and reach a wider audience.

Gold’s new single ‘Party No Dey Stop’, featuring Zinoleesky, marks his Def Jam debut and precedes his fifth studio album, set to release in June.

He is also embarking on a world tour starting in September, covering North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and the Caribbean.
