Adekunle Gold Speaks After Feature On LGBT Magazine, Timing Of Simi’s Apology To Community

Adekunle Gold Speaks After Feature On LGBT Magazine, Timing

Afrobeat star, Adekunle Gold, has reacted to backlashes on social media after his feature on Quazar Magazine, belonging to the Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, surfaced online few hours after his wife, Simi, tendered apology for a comment made against homosexuals.

AllNews recalls that Simi, during an episode of her vlog, said that homosexuality was not normal even though people believe that it is.

“They (the gay community) say they’re born that way, but I haven’t seen any biological proof,” she had said.

The apologies

On Monday, she took to her social media handles to say she “carelessly addressed the issue that is a matter of life and death for many. It was not my intention to you, but I did, and I am sorry”

She claimed she never understood their anger at first, but has come to realise that things people say without knowing their meanings can lead to prejudice.

Hours later, the photo of her husband on the cover of Quazar magazine surfaced online, leading to outrages on Twitter, with many claiming that the timing of her apology was not auspicious enough, that it came because of the unveiled magazine cover.

However, taking to his Twitter handle, Gold apologized on behalf of the “Duduke” singer, saying the timing of her apology was just a coincidence and not as a result of the magazine cover.

“I’m aware of the commotion online today and wanted to clear some things up. I am not a person who supports any kind of hate, period. I don’t agree with homophobic behavior,” Gold wrote.

“I’m cool with every human being and I love all my fans, regardless of who they love or what they identify with. The timing of my wife’s apology was a pure and simple coincidence.

“She had no idea about this or any interview whatsoever. She’s a beautiful, kind, and loving person, who like us all, has made mistakes. I hope you consider her apology and give her a chance to grow.

“I’ve been upset by how much criticism and bullying a young editor trying to do something positive has been receiving. Bullying has no place in our society.

“Also, for those questioning, I have never contacted any publication about a feature, I have a PR team who handles all my media relations. Quazar is a groundbreaking magazine.

“So I agreed to do an interview and cover issue with them. To all my fans, from all backgrounds and walks of life, if you know me then you know Love is the only way forward.”
