AFCON 2022: Aboubakar Pulls Cameroon Back To Third Place Win Over Burkina Faso

AFCON 2022: Aboubakar Pulls Cameroon Back To Third Place Win

African Cup of Nations 2022 top scorer Vincent Aboubakar pulled an unbelievable second-half draw to drag the match to penalties as Cameroon sealed a third-place finish over Burkina Faso with a 5-3 final scoreline.

Burkina Faso were energetic early in the game as push host Cameroon -- who suffered a defeat on penalties from Egypt -- down by three goals.

Steve Yago opened the scoring for the Stallions with just 24 minutes played before an own goal by Cameroon goalie Onana added another to make it 2-0 before halftime.

Aboubakar was substituted for Samuel Gouet at the 46th minute in an attempt to salvage something from the match but just 3 minutes after Burkina Faso sailed away with another goal from Djibril Quattara to make it 3-0.

It seems all hope is lost for Cameroon until Stephane Bahoken pulled one back for the Indomitable Lions.

Then Aboubakar single-handedly save Cameroon from the jaws of defeat as he scored a brace in quick succession to make it 3-3.

The extra-time could not separate the two teams so they move to penalties.

Both teams were spot on with the kick but Ibrahim Toure's lost one which gave Cameroon the opportunity to win the shoot-out.

It was not what they hope to get but they would settle for a third-place finish and a confirmed top scorer award.
