AFCON 2022: Drama As 10-Man Mali Stun One-Time Champ Tunisia

Tunisia vs Mali

Ibrahima Kone's penalty edged 10-Man Mali 1-0 past Tunisia to open the Africa Cup of Nations Group F on Wednesday afternoon in Limbe Stadium, Cameroon.

It was a rather boring but dramatic affair for the two sides in the first half as none of the sides could find the back of the net.

Three yellow cards were issued out for two Mali players -- Moussa Djenepo and Hamari Traore, one for Hamza Mathlouthi.

The match drew breath when the referee awarded a penalty for Mali which Kone converted from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way in the opening minutes of the second half.

With 13 minutes to go, Tunisia had an opportunity to get an equalizer with a penalty awarded by VAR but Wahbi Khari lost it as Mali goalie Mounkoro parried it.

Mali brought El Bilal Toure for Djenepo but they were reduced to 10 men when he was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute.

The game ended 1-0 as Mali take the top spot of Group F.
