AFCON 2022: Guinea Players Receive Must-Win Warning — Colonel Doumbouya

AFCON 2022: Guinea Players Receive Must-Win Warning — Colo

The Guinea National team has received a must-win warning from the country's interim head of state Colonel Mamady Doumbouya ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022.

According to the military head of state, the national team is to play to win or refund the money invested in them for the tournament.

The West African country is placed in Group B alongside Malawi, Senegal, and Zimbabwe.

Guniea has never won the competition before with their best performance was finishing as runner-up in the 1976 edition of the AFCON.

Interim-President has taken a military point of view of things when he tasked the national team players to risk a refund if they fail to win the trophy.

“The cup or you reimburse the money that’s been invested in you,” the Guinean President was quoted as telling the players.

The first match for Guniea is against Malawi on January 10, 2022.

Guniea boasts of the Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, former Barcelona, now RB Leipzig's Ilaix Moriba, and top-flight Ligue 1 side Clermont foot forward Mohamed Bayo.
