AFCON: Cape Verde, Egypt share spoils, advance to knockout s

Cape Verde and the Pharaohs of Egypt endured a 2-2 draw at the last Group B game of the AFCON competition.

With Mohamed Salah out of the match due to a notable injury, his presence was still felt in the team as he was in the stands inspiring his teammates from the bench.

The Cape Verde Island side would be pleased that the Liverpool star is not involved in the match as they opened the scoring in the 45+1 minutes of the match.

Gilson Tavares put the Cape Verde side ahead in the contest to add further problems to Egypt who are already missing their star man Salah due to injury.

Tavares was assisted by Ryan Mendes. After the restart, Mahmoud Trezeguet equalized to make it 1-1 thanks to an assist from Ahmed Hegazy in the 50th minute of the match.

Mostafa Mohamed scored in the closing stages (90+3 minutes) to give his Egypt side a 1-2 lead in the match thinking they had won the game.

But Cape Verde Island pulled a goal back in sumptuous style when Bryan Teixeira equalized to make it 2-2 in the 90+9 minutes of the match.

It finished 2-2 apiece between both sides as Cape Verde and Egypt advanced both in 1st and 2nd position in Group B.
