Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed gratitude to the coaching crew and the entire team for the chance given to him to shine at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Chippa United custodian was awarded Man of the Match in Wednesday's semifinal game against South Africa as he stopped two spot kicks in the 4-2 win after an intense 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.

Nwabali spoke to the media following his penalty kick' heroics in Bouake.

"It has been a good team performance throughout this tournament. I really appreciate the management and coaches," said Nwabali.

"When the coach (Jose Peseiro) informed me he was coming to visit, for me it was one of the biggest things. A coach to come visit was a motivation. When he said he was coming I was really pleased," Nwabali remarked.

Despite earning rave reviews for his shootout excellence, the humble keeper highlighted Nigeria's team ethic.

"These (in reference to the players) guys have really guided me a lot throughout this tournament, and I feel so happy," the former Wikki Tourists and Lobi Stars keeper said.

Nwabali has conceded just two goals in six Afcon games thus far and will be remembered for generations, etching his name into Nigerian folklore.

Nigeria will face hosts Cote d'Ivoire in Sunday's final with another great performance from Nwabali likely to see him win the goalkeeper of the tournament prize at the expense of South Africa's Themkolo Williams.
