AFCON Qualifiers: Peseiro Insists Eagles' Performance In Abuja Better Than Return Leg

AFCON Qualifiers: Peseiro Insists Eagles' Performance In Abu

Jose Peseiro, the coach of the Super Eagles, has insisted that his side had a better showing in Abuja than in Bissau despite winning away from home yesterday.

The Eagles beat the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau 1-0 to avenge their home defeat at the Moshood Abiola Stadium last Friday.

Moses Simon, one of the five players brought into the starting lineup in the return leg, netted the winner of the match from the spot after Bright Osayi-Samuel was brought down in the box.

The Eagles took home the all-important three points to move to the summit of the table in Group A and end their run of four consecutive games without a win.

Addressing a news conference, Peseiro admitted that his players played better than their opponents, maintaining that the Eagles dominated the fixture in the first leg.

"We could have won 6-1 in Abuja and 5-0 here in Bissau today because we played better on Friday than today," he said in his post-match interview.

He added: "But that’s football, sometimes you played better than your opponents but the result will show otherwise.

“We dominated the match more at home than today but we could not convert our scoring chances.”

The Super Eagles will next meet Sierra Leone for their penultimate match in June.
