Afghanistan Hit By 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake, Complicates Rec

Just days after a series of devastating earthquakes claimed over 2,400 lives, western Afghanistan was struck by another significant tremor.

This latest quake, measuring 6.3 magnitude, occurred in the vicinity of Herat, the capital of Herat province, early on Wednesday morning local time.

With western Afghanistan already grappling with the aftermath of recent earthquakes, the new tremor has further compounded the region's woes.

The office of Herat's governor reported "huge losses" in districts near areas that were severely impacted by the previous quakes.

Early reports indicate at least 80 injuries, and to make matters worse, a landslide has obstructed the main Herat-Torghundi highway, hindering rescue and relief efforts.

While the situation is still developing, the repeated seismic activity in the region is raising concerns about recovery efforts and the well-being of affected communities.
