AFN names Amusan, Okezie 38 others for Africa Athetics Champ

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, have released a team of 40 athletes for the upcoming African Athletics Championship slated to start this weekend in Douala, Cameroon, with one major absentee, Udodi Onwuzuruike.

Tobi Amusan, Chidi Okezie, Favour Ofili, Ese Brume and Dubem Nwachukwu are some of the big hitters who made the cut in the men and women sections.

There were no explanations from the AFN on his omission but feelers indicate that he could be nursing an injury.

The athletes have been competing for space in the championship with the national trial which was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The trials in Benin and the Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon serve as preparations for the Olympics that start on July 26.

Most of the athletes on the list for Cameroon are expected to make Team Nigeria's squad to the Olympics in Paris, France.
