President William Ruto while speaking in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Saturday during the inaugural ministerial forum by the Africa Centres for Disease Control stated that Africa should start manufacturing its own medicine.
Ruto reiterated the need for the continent to improve its ability to produce its vaccines and stop relying on imports.
The president argued that to provide institutions with qualified personnel, Africa must invest in its public health workforce.
He pointed out that these treatments necessitate substantial resource mobilization and increased domestic health expenditure.
Future health threats and disease outbreaks "are going to be more complex and lethal," according to the President, who stated that the change is essential.
“Our ability to detect and respond quickly to them and to design data-driven interventions and programmes will become increasingly vital going forward,” he said.
He applauded the Africa Union Commission's appeal to states, international organizations, and the private sector to assist in the full implementation of the continent's public health order.
This will boost the security of global health, he emphasized.
