To promote a practical connection of education with the African youth, EduTimes Africa Magazine is set to debut a monthly magazine on January 23.
The Chief Executive Officer/ Editor-in-Chief of the magazine, Oladapo Akande, said in Lagos on Thursday that the monthly magazine, founded by Akande, alongside two others, Adebiyi Oke and Kammonke Abam, will also be available online.
Akande noted that many African countries are lagging rather than soaring in the development of education, despite the available natural resources.
He said it is difficult to argue with the popular mantra by the Nigerian youth, “Education is a scam” when compared with “the 33.3 per cent unemployment and similar underemployment rate, and a staggering 42% unemployment rate for the youth demographic”.
He added that students in public institutions are also faced with incessant strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) due to poor welfare and remuneration, which has extended the stay of the students in school.
The CEO, however, said the African youth should be enlightened on the innovations in the educational sector across the continent and the importance of proper education.
The Editor-In-Chief said will help in meeting this need through guest-written articles by experienced persons in the industry and inspiring interviews of those whose success story points to a good education.
Adebiyi Oke, the initiator of the project on his part said the economic development of the African continent depends on its educational development.
The founders of the magazine said it would be beneficial to students, parents, policymakers and those who hope for socioeconomic development in the African continent through a good educational sector.
