African Footballers Continue Goal-Scoring Spree In Europe

Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho

African footballers continued to impress in Europe as they found the back of the net for their respective teams. The previous weekend saw Nigerian forwards Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho both make significant contributions to their teams.

Osimhen, who is leading Napoli to their first title in decades, scored another goal in their 3-0 win over Cremonese. Meanwhile, senior player Iheanacho played a crucial role in Leicester City's 4-1 victory over Tottenham, scoring a goal and assisting another.

It's not just the forwards who are making an impact, as even a defender got on the score sheet this weekend.

Here is a compilation we made available.

Nampalys Mendy (Leicester City & Senegal)

Senegalese international Mendy has been a crucial figure in Leicester City's recent success, and he was on target with a rare goal in their 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Urged by the crowd to shoot as Spurs cleared a corner, Mendy hit a stunning shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the box, netting his first goal for Leicester and just the second of his 13-year career. His 365 appearances for club and country have now produced a pair of goals.

Kelechi (Leicester City & Nigeria)

Nigerian striker Iheanacho was at it again in Leicester City's recent game against Tottenham, scoring a goal and providing an assist. He could have taken the shot himself for his first contribution, but instead unselfishly laid on a perfect pass for English midfielder James Maddison to score.

Deep into first-half injury time, Iheanacho decided to keep the ball himself and almost passed it into the corner of the net. Another huge game contribution from the Super Eagles star!

Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City & Algeria)

Algerian international Riyad Mahrez has been one of Manchester City's best players this season, consistently providing goals and assists.

He set up City's opener against Aston Villa with a perfect corner that was headed home by Rodri. Mahrez then added a penalty at the end of the first half to make it 3-0 and secure the win for City.

With 11 goals in all competitions this season, including seven in his last nine games, Mahrez has been a crucial player for City.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli & Nigeria)

Victor Osimhen

It's not a Serie A weekend without a goal from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. His latest strike came in Napoli's easy 3-0 win over Cremonese, which opened up a 16-point lead at the top of the table.

Osimhen has now scored in 11 of his last 13 Serie A matches, with 15 goals in all in that time. It's an incredible return for the 24-year-old, who shows no signs of slowing down.

Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla & Morocco)

It's been a difficult season for Sevilla, but they secured a fine 2-0 win against Mallorca with the help of Morocco star Youssef En-Nesyri.

The striker scored the opener midway through the first half, just his third goal in La Liga this season, but also his fourth in as many games in all competitions.

En-Nesyri showed his pace to run onto a long ball and provide a composed finish with Mallorca's defence asleep around him.
