African Players Actively Sought After During 2022-23 Transfe

African players are getting more attention in the 2022-23 transfer windows with most moving to or from Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.

AllNews compiled a list of top African players who are enjoying a good transfer -- either to join a club of their dreams or commanding a good transfer fee.

- Sadio Mane (Senegal) (€41 million (Liverpool -- Bayern Munich £35m/$43m))

The Senegalese forward is first on this list not just because he commanded the highest transfer fee but because of his accolade and name in football.

Mane moved from Southampton to Liverpool and claimed the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League including UEFA Super Cup and World Club Cup.

Sadio Mane joins Bayern Munich

After over 5 years at Anfield, Mane sealed a £41M move to Bayern Munich in June and joined an exclusive list of players who have played for both Liverpool and Bayern.

Aside from his success in the Premier League winning the golden boot alongside African winger Mohamed Salah and Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang, he also claimed the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in Morocco with Senegal.

Although the Africans have been unsuccessful in terms of claiming the highest honours such as the Ballon d'Or, and FIFA Men's Award which does not exclude him.

Yet, Mane remains one of the foremost African players of all time.

His agility on and off the ball is something that every team would want. His ability to score goals, and provide assists is what a manager would require in his team.

He is a big addition to an already star-studded Bayern team and they could go and conquer Europe again in the 2022-23 season.

- Sebastien Haller (Cote d'Ivoire) (Ajax -- Borussia Dortmund £35M)

Next on the list is former Ajax, and West Ham frontman Sebastian Haller who could be called the main signing to replace Manchester City Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.

Sebastien Haller

Haller finished the 2021-22 season as the third man on the UEFA Champions League scoring chart with 11 goals behind Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.

The Ivorian striker was also on target for Ajax winning the Eredivisie with former manager Erik Ten Hag.

After Haaland's move to Man City, Haller was scouted as a replacement for him due to his goalscoring prowess. Although it can be argued that Haaland is a better scorer than Haller but his presence in the penalty box poses almost the same threat as the Norwegian.

This is evident in that he scored 34 goals across 42 appearances.

He became Dortmund's 7th signing of the summer transfer window.

- Taiwo Awoniyi (Nigeria) (Union Berlin -- Nottingham Forest £17.5M)

Awoniyi is the only Nigerian on this list after the newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham had to trigger his release clause German side Union Berlin to secure his services.

Taiwo Awoniyi

Awoniyi scored 20 goals in 41 appearances for Berlin last season which was a very huge return compared to his 5 goals during the 2020-21 season.

He signed a 5-year deal with Forest which puts him in the 2-time Champions League winner till 2027.

After signing the deal, the Nigerian forward said “It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to [head coach] Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of.”

We look forward to how he would hit the ground running when the Premier League resumes in August.

- Franck Kessie (Cote d'Ivoire) (AC Milan -- Barcelona Free transfer)

Kessie joined the exclusive list of few Africans who will have played at Camp Nou when he signed a 5-year deal with Xavi Hernandez's Barcelona.

The 25-year-old midfielder left San Siro for Spain after his contract with AC Milan ended in June.

Kessie is known in the football world for his stamina, and physique in the midfield.

It is yet to be seen what role Xavi will use him but he follows in the path of his countryman Yaya Toure who also played for Barcelona.

Just like Yaya, Kessie is also an anchorman although not a look like Sergio Busquets but having someone of his playing style could be a great addition for Xavi when facing possessive teams like Manchester City and Liverpool in European competition.

- Yves Bissouma (Mali) (Lille -- Tottenham Hotspur £30M)

Bissouma is a Mali international who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the midfield position after sealing a £30M transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion.

He will be having the opportunity of playing in the UEFA Champions League after Tottenham finished 4th on the Premier League standings in the 2021-22 season.

- Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal) (Napoli -- Chelsea £33M)

Nicknamed "the wall", the former Napoli defender completed a £33M to English outfit Chelsea in the 2022-23 summer transfer window.

The Senegalese skipper has been one of the finest defenders in modern football having a price tag of over £100M+ for more than 4 years in Naples.

His defensive prowess, strength, and speed added to his technical ability has been crucial to Napoli returning to an annual Champions League participant. In Italy, Koulibaly won Coppa Italia, Serie A best defender, Serie A Player of the month, and also Serie A team of the year.

On the international stage, He is part of the Senegal team that won the recent Africa Cup of Nations (2021), including other individual accolades in his coffer.

Koulibaly

Before his move to Chelsea, Koulibaly was courted by several top clubs across Europe including Barcelona even at the age of 30.

We look forward to his time at Chelsea where he would form a backline partnership with Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva.

- Joe Aribo (Nigeria) (Rangers -- Southampton £10m)

Super Eagles forward Aribo proves his versatility as a player, playing centrally or in a wide midfield role. Technically proficient, he is able to use his long legs to shield the ball from opponents effectively.

Speaking in October 2016, he said that his strengths were "driving with the ball and getting up the pitch.

He competed in the final of the UEFA Europa League 2021-22 season against Frankfurt after scoring 9 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

Although, he would not have the opportunity to showcase his talents at the World Cup in Qatar later this year but moving to Southampton in the Premier League also provide the 26-year-old a platform to thrive.

His strength could come in handy when facing a more aggressive and less space play common in the Premier League.

- Calvin Bassey (Nigeria) (Rangers to Ajax £22.6M)

If not that this compilation was done with no order, Bassey should come in as second or third on the list given his transfer to Ajax.

Ajax sold Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United and replaced him with Bassey who had an excellent season at Rangers like his compatriot Aribo.

Calvin Bassey

He is a record sale for the Scottish Champions Rangers in a £22.6M transfer including add-ons.

He would also have the opportunity to play in this year's Champions league although he won't be able to participate in the World Cup. He made his debut against Ghana during the FIFA World Cup qualification that ended 1-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Although Italy-born, he decided to play for Nigeria.

He is only 22 and already commanding a transfer fee of £19M, if he continues to grow and progress well, he could one day be holding out a huge asking price given Ajax selling nature.
