Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled another attempt to kidnap students at the Government Science Secondary School in the Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, by bandits.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this on Sunday at a press conference in the state.

this is coming 24 hours after students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation under bandits’ captives called for help in a disturbing video.

The abducted students were seen being beaten by their captors and were pleading with the government to come to their rescue.

In the video, they were huddle together and sitting on tree leaves, with gun-wielding men, some of them were in military uniform, keeping watch over their abductees.

The Commissioner said the gunmen invaded the school in the late hours of Saturday and attempted to abduct the students before the arrival of soldiers, who engaged the criminals in a gun battle.

Aruwan disclosed that the students utilized the security warning system in place, and were able to alert security forces in the area that moved to the school on time and engaged the bandits, forcing them to flee.

“The security forces comprising the troops of the Nigerian Army, police and some security volunteers moved swiftly to the school and engaged the bandits forcing them to flee. The military and the police are still on the trail of the armed bandits.”

He further confirmed that no student was missing after a headcount after the army foiled the kidnap attempt.

In the same vein, the commissioner further revealed that officers of the Nigerian Airforce foiled another attack by bandits at the Kaduna International Airport senior staff quarters around Ifira village in the Igabi local government area.

He explained that troops engaged the bandits in a gun battle, and forced some of them to flee with gunshot wounds.

This came 24 hours after armed bandits attempted to abduct students of the Turkish International Secondary School in Kaduna State.
