Aguerd Scores Winner As West Ham Make History At Freiburg

Nayef Aguerd scored the winner as West Ham edged past Freiburg in Germany in Thursday evening's Europa League encounter.

The Hammers won 2-1 and became the first English side to go 17 consecutive games in European competition without defeat.

Lucas Paqueta opened the scoring inside eight minutes, heading home Jarrod Bowen’s fine cross.

The early goal put David Moyes men in cruise control as they dominated the opening period.

But, four minutes into the second half, an improved Freiburg rattled the Hammers when Roland Sallai prodded an equaliser after two good saves from Lukasz Fabianski.

West Ham were relieved on 67 minutes when Aguerd met James Ward-Prowse’s excellent corner to restore the lead against the run of play.

The hosts never seriously threatened, thereafter, as the Hammers raced away with the historic win.

West Ham occupy top spot in Group A with six points while Freiburg are second and sit three points behind.
