Airlines In Nigeria Shutting Down Due To Aviation Fuel Scarcity

Airlines In Nigeria Shutting Down Due To Aviation Fuel Scarc

Air Peace Chairman/CEO Allen Onyema has said that airlines in the country will be shutting down on Thursday, March 17 due to the scarcity of aviation fuel.

PM News Nigeria reports that Onyema made the disclosure on Monday at the Oil Marketers and Airline Operators' meeting held at the National Assembly.

The convergence was an opportunity for airline operators to demand operational licenses from the government in order for the importation of fuel to begin.

"We have only three more days, all airlines in Nigeria will shut down. We are not threatening this country, it is a fact.", Onyema stated.

Explaining further, the Air Peace boss said that should airlines continue operations, the average Nigerian would pay N120,000 for an economy ticket.

"I have the mandate of all airlines to demand that airlines begin importation of fuel. If we can buy planes of millions of dollars, we can also import fuel ourselves. Let NNPC give airline’s licenses, we want to import ourselves."

Responding to the demands made, NNPC CEO Mele Kyari said that there were 19 oil companies with 88 million litres of aviation fuel in the country.⁣
