Socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu has posited that "calling Nigeria a zoo is actually a compliment", adding that "it is worse".

According to the co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Movement, an advocacy group that brings attention to the abduction of over 200 girls, from a secondary school in Chibok in 2014, the country "is in a category of itself where killings happen indiscriminately with no purpose".

Yesufu was replying to a question by Rinu Oduala, one of the most prominent voices that peacefully protested for an end to police brutality in Nigeria in 2020.

Oduala had asked via her verified Twitter handle on Monday: "Let’s be very honest. Is Nigeria not a zoo?"

"Calling Nigeria a zoo is actually a compliment. It is worse," Yesufu, a fierce critic of successive Nigerian governments wrote on her verified Twitter handle.

"Killings don't happen in zoos indiscriminately.

"It is more like a jungle but then killings in jungles is for a purpose.

"Nigeria is in a category of itself where killings happen indiscriminately with no purpose."

Diaspora-based Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), often call Nigeria "zoo".

According to Kanu, because Nigeria is a failed country where there are so many oddities happening at the same time, the West African country is a zoo.

Kanu and majority of the Igbos in the Southeast and South-South regions of Nigeria want a breakaway state of Biafra, but the Nigerian government continues to oppose their campaign.

A significant number of Easterners desire a referendum and they have time and again held peaceful protests in that regard.
