Akinrun Stool: Osun Government Insists Only Court Can Change Directive

Akinrun Stool: Osun Government Insists Only Court Can Change

The Osun State Government has insisted that no amount of pressure from aggrieved people of Ikirun can change their direction on installing the new Akinrun.

Reacting to different protests stagged by different groups in the ancient town calling for a hold on the process to install Prince Olalekan Akadir as the new Akinrun, the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Razak Adeosun said the government will never be distracted.

Speaking on social affairs programme on radio in Osogbo on Tuesday, Adeosun said the Local Government and Chieftaincy is acting based on reports from Ifelodun Local Government Area, Osun.

According to the governor’s side; “The role of the ministry is to make sure that the selection process is done in line with the dictates and the letters of the chieftaincy law.

“Our role as the ministry is to supervise and to ensure that everything is done in compliance with the chieftaincy law.

“We had initially written to the local government to go to the Gbolerun ruling house because, by the chieftaincy declaration of Ikirun, the Gbolerun ruling house was to take their turn.

“Within a week of writing this letter we got a court order asking us to stop every process and we stopped, only for us to a receive another court judgement after several weeks asking us to go to the next ruling house and we complied by going to Obaara ruling house.

“And the local government filed a report that they have done their selection.”

Adeosun affirmed that the Osun government will approve the selection of Oba-elect, Prince Olalekan Alkadir as the new Akinrun based on a local government report submitted to his ministry.

He, however, maintained that only the court can change his ministry direction, saying “what anybody can achieve with the chieftaincy law is what the Local Government and Chieftaincy Ministry will do.”
