The lawmaker representing Oron Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives, Nse Ekpenyong, is dead.
Ekpenyong, aged 58, who was a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly where he spent one term, reportedly died on Saturday.
Confirming the incident to Premium Times, the chairman of Mbo Local Government Area, where Ekpenyong hailed from, Asuqwo Eyo, said the lawmaker was not ill before he died.
Until his death, Ekpenyong was the Managing Director of Based/Investment Trust Co. Nigeria Ltd and the Chief Executive Officer of Brule Integrated Nigeria.
However, his career was blotted by his arrest for allegedly forging his school certificates which he presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He was arraigned in 2017 at the Federal High Court, Uyo, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the alleged forging of his national diploma certificate from the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State.
He was at one time the Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
