Akwa Ibom: Rosalyn Essien Makes History As First Female Chai

Dr Rosalyn Essien, the wife of a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, has been elected as the first female Chairman of the Akwa Ibom chapter of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stated that Essien emerged unopposed at the institute's Annual General Meeting (AGM) themed "The Human Resources Methods of The Master," held in Uyo on Wednesday.

With a B.A (Hons.) in English Language from the University of Uyo, as well as Master's and Doctoral degrees, Essien is a seasoned bureaucrat with a keen interest in human resources management.

She has served in various roles within the Akwa Ibom civil service and has undergone training in conflict management in different countries, including South Africa, Britain, and the United States of America.

In her acceptance speech, Essien expressed her readiness to serve and noted that her previous role as CIPM vice-chairman had equipped her with a better understanding of the institute's dynamics and workings.

Speaking during the event, Anthony Isonguyo, the immediate past Chairman of the institute, spoke about his accomplishments, which included the training of members and advocacy through courtesy visits to some notable firms in the state.

He added that his team had collaborated with some organizations to train their workforce and successfully completed training programs for other firms.

In his goodwill message, CIPM National President, Mojid Olusegun, emphasized that the institute would remain a potent voice in advocating for a new minimum wage from the Federal Government.

Represented by the South-South Zonal Vice-President, Samuel Omeregun, Olusegun also stated that the institute would continue to fulfil its core mandate by providing effective human resources services.
