Toby Alderweireld
Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld announced his retirement from the national team at the age of 34.
The defender, who had been a mainstay in the team for the last 13 years.
Alderweireld had a long and illustrious career with the Red Devils, amassing 127 caps and being part of the team that reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
However, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar proved to be a disappointment for the team as they were knocked out at the group stage.
The 34-year-old defender, who has played for clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, and Royal Antwerp, expressed his gratitude for being able to live his childhood dream of playing for the national team.
"It has been an honour and a privilege to represent my country for all these years.
"However, with pain in my heart, I announce my retirement from the Belgian Red Devils with immediate effect," Alderweireld said in his statement.
His retirement comes shortly after fellow "golden generation" member, Eden Hazard, also retired from international football after the same disappointing campaign in Qatar.
Belgium fans will surely miss Alderweireld's commanding presence on the pitch, but they will forever cherish the memories of his contributions to the team.
