Former Prime Minister, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has been sworn in as the new president of Algeria.
Abdelmadjid Tebboune takes office after the former president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, was ousted from office earlier in April amidst protests.

The new president is expected to address the protestations of the citizens who have chosen to continue protesting against the political elite's chokehold on power.
Abdelmadjid has promised to “extend my hand to the Hirak (protest movement) for a dialogue,” and to put in positions of power, young ministers, and to push for a change in the constitution.
The country's economy seems to suffer because of its political unrest, as the country relies heavily on oil exports, and the crash in oil prices has affected its budget.
