Suspended Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iornem Alia, has been declared the winner of the 2022 Benue State All Progressives Congress Governorship Primaries.
This is as aspirants and delegates claim that foul play and irregularities marred the primary election.
Alia emerged the candidate of the party through the direct mode of primary elections, having contested with 12 others he pulled the total number of 526,807 votes, defeating his close rival Dr. Matthias Byuan with 133,816 votes.
The Chairman of the Benue state 2022 Governorship Primaries election Dr. Peter Ojie made the declaration at the collation centre of the primaries at the state secretariat of the party in the state.
Meanwhile, Senator Barnabas Gemade, gubernatorial aspirant of the Benue APC has called out the panel for irregularities,noting no guidelines were issued for the primaries.
"The electoral officers sat by the party secretariat and never moved to any of the venues throughout the state.
"Party members who gathered there gathered in vain as there were no party membership registers at any of the ward venues.
"The so-called results announced on Saturday were simply fabricated aandallocated to aspirants by some election panel members and state executive committee members," he said.
