All You Need To Know About Late Nigerian Comedy Legend Baba

AllNews Nigeria earlier reported that Nigerian comedy legend, Babatunde Omidina a.k.a. Baba Suwe is dead.

He died on Monday after a long battle with an illness.

The news of Baba Suwe's death was further confirmed to AllNews Nigeria by the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria, (TAMPAN), Latin.

Baba Suwe was born on August 22, 1958, in Igbgogbo Street, Ikorodu, Lagos State, and grew up on the Island.

Marital Status

Baba Suwe was married to Omoladun Omidina with children. She died in 2009. Omidina reportedly died of high blood pressure and an undisclosed illness she had been battling for years.

Educational Background

The Nigerian comedy legend got his primary education at Jamaitul Islamial Elementary School in Lagos and Children’s Boarding School in Osogbo.

He subsequently attended Adekanbi Commercial High School and received a West African School Certificate from Ifeoluwa Grammar School in Osogbo, Osun State.

Acting Career

Baba Suwe started his acting career in 1971 but got his big break after he starred in a film called Omolasan produced by Obalende. He became more popular after starring in Iru Esin in 1997.

He has starred in and produced several Nollywood films like Baba Jaiye Jaiye alongside Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo, the son of veteran actor Adebayo Salami.

Controversy

In 2011, he was accused of trafficking in cocaine by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), a charge described by the Lagos High Court as false and defamatory.

His lawyer was the late Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist Bamidele Aturu.
