Allardyce 'Shocked' To Land Coaching Job At Leeds

Sam Allardyce is taken aback by his recent appointment as the new interim manager at Leeds United.

Leeds confirmed on Wednesday the appointment of Allardyce following the dismissal of manager Javi Gracia over a string of poor performances by the team in the Premier League.

They are in 17th position in the league with four games left this term and stand a chance of getting relegated if Allardyce can't rescue them.

Speaking on the White and Jordan show on talkSPORT after his appointment was confirmed on Wednesday, the 68-year-old was asked about his initial reaction to the approach.

“Shocked, I never thought at this, at this stage of the season, there would be jobs offered," he admitted.

“The phone popped up with a name I knew fairly well, I knew what it was, and it took me two seconds to say yes.

“I’m here overlooking the training ground and the fabulous facilities and I’m excited to be involved.

“A tingle runs through your veins when you take over at a football club.

“I know it’s in a lot of trouble, but I’ve seen a lot of trouble before.

“I could’ve done with more time, but we’ve got four games and hopefully I can keep this fabulous club in the Premier League.”
