Alleged Dethronement: Osun CP Urges Residents To Remain Calm

The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, Faleye Sunday Olaleye has urged the residents of Osogbo to remain peaceful and calm in the light of allegations that the state government planned to dethrone the Ataoja of Osogbo.

CP Olaleye who called on residents to go about their business without fear added that the Osun State Government had issued a press release debunking the alleged dethronement.

Olaleye made this known on Friday in a statement from Yemisi Opalola, the command spokesperson in Osogbo.

The Osun police boss while assuring the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun of adequate security called upon the relevant stakeholders to maintain peace and tranquillity in the town.

The statement reads, "Consequent upon the news making the round and protest in Osogbo, that the State Government is planning to dethrone the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State, CP Faleye S. Olaleye, psc in Ataoja's Palace assures His Majesty of adequate security and addressed the protesters to maintain the peace that he has contacted the relevant stakeholders and the State Government has issued a press release debunking the news and tagged it as fake/rumours being peddled. 

"The CP urged Osogbo indigenes to maintain status quo and enjoins everyone to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of chaos or apprehension."

The Osogbo Action Committee, under the leadership of Ajadi Badmus, had notified the state government of alleged plot to dethrone Oba Olanipekun due to the frosty relationship between him and the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

Also, the state government reacting to the letter through the spokesperson to the governor, Ismail Omipidan described the allegation as mischievous, wicked and a calculated attempt to pitch the people against their governor.

Meanwhile, protests had erupted in Osogbo over the allegation that the state government was planning to dethrone the Ataoja, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.
