1. President Buhari Mourns Ex-UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Ibidapo-Obe

Following the death of former Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos and Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of First Technical University, Ibadan, Prof Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, President Muhammadu Buhari has joined hosts of others to condole with the family of the academia. AllNews learned that the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Monday said this in a statement titled, ‘President Buhari mourns former UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe.’

2. Sanwo-Olu Directs All Schools Below Tertiary Level To Remain Closed Indefinitely

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has directed all public and private schools below the tertiary level in Lagos State to remain closed indefinitely in order to curb the second wave of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. AllNews gathered in a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi on Sunday, January 3, 2020.

3. JAMB Gives Update On Sale Of 2021 UTME Forms

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday warned the public not to fall prey to fraudsters and rumour mongers. The board gave the advice in a weekly bulletin of the Office of the Registrar, stating that it is yet to begin the sale of the 2021 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms. ”JAMB reiterates that it has not began the sale of its 2021 UTME and Direct Entry (DE) application forms, neither has it announced a date for the exercise.

4. FRSC Confirms Anambra Auto Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra state has confirmed that a truck driver driving against traffic on Sunday, in Onitsha, reportedly killed a man crossing the road at Mgbuka First Gate on Owerri Road, Anambra State. The FRSC State Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, said the accident, which occurred at about 6 .p m. on Sunday, was caused by route violation, speed and loss of control.

5. Primate Ayodele Puts Olubadan, Olu Of Warri, Others On Red Alert

Primate Ayodele Elijah has released again unmissable prophecies about traditional rulers in Nigeria. The leader and founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Ayodele in a series of 2021 prophecies made available to AllNews Nigeria cautioned that some people in government and some traditional rulers will clash. He further warned that some palaces will be razed by fire while some top traditional rulers will witness severe health challenges except they seek for divine protection from God.

7. CBN Defends Naira With $4.37bn In Three Months

As part of the efforts to ensure the stability of the Nigerian currency, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has the plan to inject $4.37bn into the foreign exchange market in the third quarter of 2020. AllNews learned that the CBN who disclosed this in its third-quarter economic report said its periodic interventions in the forex market will continue to boost the supply side of the market, as the COVID-19 crisis weakened the private sector supply chain segment of the market.

8. BBNaija 2020 Winner Laycon Obtains Chieftaincy Title In Ogun State

BBNaija 2020 winner, Lekan Agbeleshe popularly called  Laycon has obtained a chieftaincy title as the Akeweje Of Ipokia Kingdom, in Ogun State. Laycon received the traditional title over the weekend from the Onipokia of Ipokia, Oba Yisa Adesola Olaniyan, at the 2021 Opo Day celebration held at the District High School, Ipokia. The Onipokia during the title installation said Laycon as an indigene of Ipokia truly deserved the title of Akeweje.

9. Atiku Blames President Buhari For Selling Off Intels Shares

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 General Elections, Atiku Abubakar has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari-led government for the reason he sold off his shares in Integrated Logistics Services Limited (INTELS). Atiku Abubakar, who is also the former Vice President disclosed this in a short statement issued and signed by his media aide, Paul Ibe, titled ‘Atiku redirects his investment in Intels,’ on Monday.

10. WhatsApp Sets All-Time Record For Calls On New Year's Eve

The COVID-19 pandemic forced many to have virtual New Year’s Eve get-togethers, and that’s very clearly reflected in WhatsApp’s numbers. As the Year 2020 drew to a close, the Facebook chat app set an all-time record of 1.4 billion video and voice calls placed on New Year’s Eve 2020, making it the most ever in a single day on WhatsApp. This represents a 50 percent spike over the event from a year earlier and surpassed even the early days of the pandemic in March.
