Amazon Prime Video Adds 'Gangs Of Lagos' To Local Original Content Basket

Amazon Prime Video Adds 'Gangs Of Lagos' To Local Original C

Amazon Prime Video has chosen 'Gangs Of Lagos' as the feature film to make a major push for originals in Nigeria while projection the most populous black nation on earth as a key streaming war battleground.

With a marketing drive currently underway and Nigerians now able to subscribe to the service in local currency for the first time, Prime Video on Friday unveiled two Nigerian originals, the first creative results of a series of recent deals.

Gangs of Lagos is described as a “high-stakes, gritty and hard-hitting action crime-thriller,” centred on a group of friends growing up on the streets of Nigeria’s largest city.

The film will launch on Prime Video in Nigeria and internationally later this year and the production comes following a series of deals in Nigeria.

The films were also announced just days after Netflix revealed its latest slate of African originals, which includes The King’s Horseman.

Gangs of Lagos will complement the growing selection of Nollywood and African series and movies.
