Streaming service Amazon, has announced that its ad-supported streaming service IMDb TV will be known as Freevee from April 27, 2022.
Amazon's studio said that the new name is designed to better reflect how much it costs to access the platform.
The streaming service said that it would invest more into original programmings, such as High School, a coming of age series from indie duo Tegan and Sara, with a promise to offer 70 percent more exclusive content than it does currently.
The company will announce additional details about Freevee’s upcoming slate of originals at its NewFronts presentation on May 2nd.
The head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, said in a statement: "Over the past two years, we have seen tremendous growth for our AVOD service and are committed to bringing our audiences premium, free-to-consumer content. We’re looking forward to building on this momentum with an increasing slate of inventive and broadly appealing originals, and are excited to establish Freevee as the premier AVOD service with content audiences crave."
