American Rapper DMX On Life Support Following Drug Overdose

U.S. hip-hop artist DMX is clinging on to life support after being hospitalized following a recent drug overdose.

An official statement from DMX's representative made available to TMZ reveals that he was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. He is presently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he is still in critical condition.

The statement reads: "Last night, Earl 'DMX' Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time, he remains in the ICU in critical condition.

"Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents another road he must conquer. The Simmons family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support, and prayers for Earl.

"Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need."

A family member disclosed that DMX's children that his children were flying in to go see him, adding that paramedics tried to resuscitate him for 30 minutes. During that time, he was deprived of oxygen.

Doctors told the family that the lack of oxygen had a severe impact on his brain, with a family member saying: "It's not looking good."

Sources close to the rapper said he overdosed on drugs on Friday, April 2, at his residence at around 11 pm. According to them, this triggered a heart attack.

Another source says he is in a "vegetative state", with doctors reportedly cautioning that he may not make it.

DMX started rapping in the early '90s and released his debut album It's Dark and Hell is Hot in 1998. It was a critical and commercial success. His bestselling album And Then There Was X was released in 1999.   

He has starred in some movies, including Belly (1998), Romeo Must Die (2000), Exit Wounds (2001), Cradle 2 the Grave (2003), and Last Hour (2008).
