Amid Coronavirus Outbreak, Tai Solarin College Summons Staff

Despite the surge in coronavirus cases recorded in Nigeria, Tai Solarin College of education, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, summoned some of its staff to appear before a panel.

This was contained in an internal memo obtained by Allnews. The memo was signed by the secretary of the school's governing council, Adeleke Adeboyejo.

"This is to inform the entire staff (both Teaching and Non-Teaching) of the College that some concerned staff are to appear before the Council Disciplinary Committee," the memo read.

According to Mr Aboyejo, the panel would sit on the 26th and 27th of March at the School of Education Board Room.

However, the erring staff were advised to take preventive measures so as to curb the spread of the pandemic.

" Sequel to the above, the affected staff are expected to stay in their respective offices while invitation shall be extended to them at the appropriate time to maintain social distancing and avoid unnecessary gathering as stated by the Ogun State government in its bid to curtail the spread of the current pandemic virus (COVID-19) ravaging the world."

Nonetheless, the names of the staff and their offences were not indicated in the memo.

The council assured that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the invited staff.

It should be noted that the total cases confirmed in Nigeria have reached 51 after Rivers state recorded its index case on Wednesday evening.

A breakdown of cases by states shows that Lagos State still has the highest number of confirmed cases in the country with 32 cases, followed by Abuja with 10 cases, Ogun State three, and Ekiti, Oyo Edo, Bauchi, Osun, and Rivers have one case each.

This online medium had earlier reported how the Ogun state authorities as well as some other states' banned gathering of more than 20 persons and shut down all schools.
