Isabel dos Santos
Angola's Supreme Court ordered on Tuesday the preventive seizure of assets of Isabel dos Santos, daughter of former president Eduardo dos Santos.
This is Isabel dos Santos's second asset seizure in Angola since 2019.
The court ruling applies to all shares of the firm Embalvidro, of which the defendant is the beneficial owner, as well as the balances of all bank accounts owned or co-owned by the former Angolan president's daughter.
Isabel dos Santos also has stakes in mobile networks in Mozambique, Cape Verde, So Tomé and Principe.
This comprises 70% of the Mozambican telecoms firm MSTAR, of whom Isabel dos Santos is the effective beneficiary, as well as 100% of the Cape Verdean businesses UNITEL T+ and UNITEL STP.
According to the Supreme Court, the businesswoman damaged the Angolan state with over 1 billion euros, "in other criminal cases" with proof of "embezzlement, influence peddling, economic engagement in firms and money laundering".
The Angolan Supreme Court based its verdict on papers from national oil corporation Sonangol and mobile phone carrier Unitel, as well as evidence submitted by Portuguese and Dutch authorities.
