Another Kenyan Pastor Arrested Following Probe Into Cult-Rel

A renowned Kenyan televangelist has been apprehended by Kenyan police, and his church located on the coast has been shut down.

Investigations into a religious group that has been linked to the deaths of almost a hundred people are currently being carried out by the Kenyan authorities.

Pastor Ezekiel Odero of the New Life International Church in Mavueni, Kilifi county, who is renowned for drawing sizable crowds to his events, was detained on Thursday after the police inspected a funeral home close to his church. 

The police claimed to have proof that workers at the morgue had been removing bodies from the church property.

According to claims that deaths have been happening on Pastor Ezekiel Odero's property, Coast regional commissioner Rhoda Onyancha told reporters that Pastor Odero was detained this morning.

The pastor hasn't addressed the accusations.

Additionally, police are looking into his alleged connections to controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, who is accused of telling followers to starve themselves in order to "meet Jesus" and has a reputation for leading followers into cult-like practices.

In an 800-acre forest close to his church on the coast, Kenyan authorities have already found 95 bodies of people who are thought to have died of starvation and were buried in shallow graves. There were numerous young victims.

The pastor, who is already in custody, has said he did nothing wrong.
