APC Aborigines endorse Aiyedatiwa for gubernatorial ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Aborigines have officially thrown their support behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's bid to secure the party's gubernatorial ticket following a month-long screening process of all aspirants.

The APC Aborigines established a nine-member committee chaired by Hon Christy Olufowose, tasked with screening and shortlisting aspirants from 12 down to three.

The final three candidates selected include the late Paul Akintelure, Wale Akinterinwa, and the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

After their meeting in Akure, former Ambassador Sola Iji, the group's leader, announced that, following careful evaluation and screening, the APC Aborigines unanimously chose Aiyedatiwa as their preferred candidate.

Iji disclosed that during the screening process, the incumbent governor received 777 points, the late Akintelure scored 612 points, and the former finance commissioner scored 587 points.

He explained, "In determining the choice of our preferred aspirant, the leaders believed it was appropriate to give the right of first refusal to His Excellency, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the incumbent Governor.

"In addition to his achievements since assuming office, such as his commitment to infrastructural development, payment of backlog of salaries, release of funds to universities, and reinstatement of free shuttle buses for students, were considered significant points.

"Based on his conduct and performance, we are pleased to announce that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is our preferred aspirant in the upcoming APC governorship primary in Ondo State.

"By this decision, we are committed to leveraging our numerical strength and resources to ensure Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's victory at the primary, believing that his candidacy will lead to a resounding victory in the general election and foster good governance in the state."

Recall that the APC Aborigines had previously cautioned against the commercialization of the party ticket, urging the selection of a credible aspirant for the November 16 gubernatorial election.

They established a nine-member committee to evaluate all aspirants and select a strong candidate who could win the election and unite party members. They emphasized the importance of having a government led by APC members, not outsiders.
