APC Picks Commissioner To Replace Shettima

All You Need To Know About Kashim Shettima, Tinubu's Running Mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General of Borno state, Barr. Shehu Lawan to replace senator Kashim Shettima as the Borno central senatorial candidate ahead of the 2023 election.

The replacement follows the nomination of Shettima as the vice presidential candidate for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the ruling APC. 

Shettima had dropped his ticket, leaving the slot vacant after his nomination. 

Lawan was elected today (Thursday) in Maiduguri after the APC delegates from eight council areas in the district noded in support. 

The Borno central senatorial district consists of Jere, Mafa, Bama, Dikwa, Konduga, Kalabalge and Ngala local government areas. 

Lawan polled 459 votes out of the 480 accredited voters during the primary.

The result was announced by the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu.  

In his acceptance speech, Lawan appreciated the governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum who believed in him and supported him to victory. 

While thanking the governor for keeping the APC united, he further commended Shettima for his leadership in the party. 

He further assured that if elected in 2023, he would live up to the expectations of the people Borno State.
