The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed Bashir Machina as the elected candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Yobe North Senatorial District of Yobe State.
The ruling which was delivered on Monday upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, the state's capital.
The Federal High Court had held that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, was not the APC candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District in the 2023 elections.
Justice Monica Dongban-Mensen presided over the three-man panel that gave the affirmation for Machina as the elected candidate in the primary election held in May 2022.
Lawan had appealed challenging the outcome of the sitting of the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Fadimatu Aminu in Damaturu on September 28, 2022.
The Senate President had contested the APC presidential primary and lost to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Meanwhile, after the defeat, he had been parading himself as the senatorial candidate of the Yobe North senatorial district leading to the Court case.
