Appeal Court Affirms Oyebanji's Victory in Ekiti

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State has affirmed Biodun Oyebanji as the winner of the gubernatorial election held on June 18, 2022, in the state.

Delivering the judgment on Tuesday, a three-member panel of the court threw out the appeal filed by the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Segun Oni, for lacking in merit.

Oyebanji succeeds former governor Kayode Fayemi, having polled the highest number of votes to displace his closest challengers.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, was officially declared the Ekiti State governorship election winner, by the chief returning officer of the election, Kayode Adebowale.

Oyebanji secured 187,057 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who polled 82,211, and Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 67, 457 votes.

The court of appeal has however validated the polls.
