Apple has announced that non-Mini or Max phones manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021 may have an issue where no sound comes out of the earpiece when making or receiving calls and that it’ll fix the issue for free as part of the new service programme.
Apple in the statement said that only a “very small percentage” of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience sound issues due to a component that might fail on the receiver module.
For users of these phones, the company said they have absolutely nothing to worry about if they discover that the earpiece is not working properly. The service programme for no sound issue from Apple will cover devices for two years after purchase while all iPhone 12s are still under Apple’s one-year warranty, giving the earpiece an extra year of coverage.
Apple said that “If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.”
The company also said that phones “will be examined prior to any service” to make sure they’re eligible for the program. Before service, users are adviced to back up their iPhone to iCloud or a computer.
