Arewa Group Reacts To FG's Declaration Of Bandits As Terrorists

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has applauded the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for declaring bandits as terrorists.

The declaration was made know on Wednesday, in statement by the spokesperson to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The National President of AYCF, Yerima Shettima said nobody should be allowed to hold the country to ransom.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Shettima said the decision of the Federal Government was better late than never and that the president should be commended for the decision to declare bandits as terrorists.

“It’s better late than never, it’s long overdue. All the tendencies and characters of terrorism has been displayed by these characters in the name of banditry.

“It’s indeed a good thing and I applaud the Federal Government for that courage. Some of us were not happy when the court made the pronouncement and the president could not attend to it immediately, but it’s better late than never; this can not continue.

“I hope those saddled with the responsibility will do the needful, so that for once, we can have some rest," Shettima said.

He added that with this development, there is the likelihood to see considerable improvement in the country's security situation than what was obtainable in the past.

The gazette proscribing bandits provides that they will face trial under the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011.
