Argentina vs Brazil: Why We Lost To Messi’s Team in Copa America Final - Coach Tite

Argentina vs Brazil: Why We Lost To Messi’s Team in Copa A

Brazil coach Tite has blamed “anti-football” tactics by Argentina for his side's loss in Saturday's Copa America final in Rio.

Tite was scathing of the way Lionel Messi and co. slowed the game down after Argentina took the lead midway through the first half. He lamented: ‘They were just diving for fouls’.

Meanwhile, the experienced coach praised the work of his opposite number Lionel Scaloni.

"The game was so stop-start," Tite said after the match. "We wanted to play but there was anti-football. The whole time there was diving for fouls and then they took forever to take them, the referee didn't keep the game going. The strategy was to break up the play."

Argentina had last tasted success at a major tournament in 1993 when the great Gabriel Batistuta's brace gave them a 2-1 win over Mexico in the Copa final in Ecuador.

It was the first time in six editions playing at home that Brazil had failed to lift the trophy.

While Messi's trophy jinx with Argentina finally ended, another superstar, Neymar Jr. is still without a major title at international level having missed Brazil's win on home soil two years ago through injury.
