    The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Daniel Jatau has joined other dignitaries in laying of Wreath and the release of pigeons to commemorate the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD).

    The event was in honour of the fallen heroes and a mark of peace in the land.

    Jatau represented governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Pantami Township Stadium on Sunday. 

    The laying of wreath, which is a major activity in the Armed Forces Remembrance activities preceded the reveille when three cartridges were released by the soldiers in honour of the veterans signifying dignity, honour, and sacrifice.

    In an address shortly after the military rituals, Jatau explained that the marking of the AFRD is an evidence that people care about the well being of the fallen heroes and their families. 

    "My dear lovers of Gombe State, the Wreath Laying ceremony today the 15th of January, 2023 marks the closing ceremony of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day of the year 2023 that started with the flagging off of the Emblem Appeal Fund on Friday, the 13th of January, 2023.

    "I therefore commend all those that attended that event and are also here today. 

    "This is a manifestation of being our brother's keepers, and evidence that we care and are concerned about the well being of the fallen Heroes, Veterans and members of the Legion. 

    "Please maintain this so that our families will also be cared for, when eventually our duty tour on this planet comes to an end.

    "Careful observers of the celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in 2022, will realise that government appealed for a sober reflections about the fallen Heroes, their families and also the Veterans. 

    "Permit me to appeal that all that have been highlighted in 2022 and 2023 including the demands of the Chairman of the Legion in Gombe State are issues that need to be addressed always. 

    "It should not be limited to this particular period please. 

    "Let us all be resolute in supporting the activities of the Legion. 

    "Similarly, the Legion is expected to perform their relevant roles in the society, by way of advice on security issues and any other competence they have. 

    "Once we the members of the public come together and work hand in hand with the relevant Security Agencies by providing timely information, our Law Enforcement Agents will excel in their duties, thereby ensuring Security, Peace, Progress and Happiness in our dear state and by implication our dear country Nigeria."
