Gunmen
Armed herdsmen who abducted a former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bayelsa, Olusegun Osaho are currently demanding a ransom of N5 million from his family.
The incident which occurred on Monday led to the killing of the driver of the bus in which Osaho was travelling in and the abduction of 18 other passengers.
It was learnt that the gunmen struck along the East-West road, by Ewreni community, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Reports say the gunmen have called the wife of the journalist and they are demanding five million nairas as a ransom for his release.
A Warri-based legal practitioner, Lucky Egboyi Esq, who narrowly escaped the attack, said the armed herdsmen shot the Sunny Eru driver in the head and kidnapped other passengers.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondents’ Chapel described the incident as, “saddening and appalling”.
He called on the DSS, the Army and the Police to all live up to expectations and do something to end the insecurity in the country.
